InstaTemp Dual Cure TM
1. What is the composition of the material?
InstaTemp TM Dual Cure is a self-cure/light-cure bis-acryl composite based on multifunctional methacrylic esters.
2. What is the advantage of using an automix material?
A consistent high quality mix of material is achieved during each use of the cartridge system. Automatic mixing eliminates air bubbles and ensures homogeneous mixing of material in ideal mixing ratios. InstaTemp TM may be directly applied into the impression or matrix allowing for easy application.
3. What is the setting/working time?
Working time: >=45 seconds
Curing time (semi-cure): <=6:00 minutes
Curing time (light)/unit area: 60 seconds minutes
Do not use bench times to judge setting time in the mouth. There are differences in temperature and humidity, which affect setting times!
4. What are the indications?
InstaTemp TM may be used for temporary crowns, bridges, inlays, onlays, and implant abutments. It is suitable for both long-term and short-term temporary restorations.
5. What is InstaTemp's shrinkage?
It is important to not just speak about shrinkage, but to also tell what shrinkage you are talking about. Generally there are two types of shrinkage: Volumetric and Linear. Linear Shrinkage of InstaTemp is about 0.5%, while volumetric shrinkage is in the range of flowable composites: 3-4%.
6. Is InstaTemp TM biocompatible?
Yes, InstaTemp TM contains no methyl methacrylate and the material is safe for the pulp as there is low heat generated during cure (38°C/ 100°F max). Biocompatibility is also better than with competitive products, because although it is chemically cured, InstaTemp TM does not use benzoyl peroxide based chemistry for its setting reaction.
7. How can the oxygen-inhibited layer be removed?
There is a very thin layer of uncured resin caused by oxygen in the air that must be removed before finishing and polishing or applying Varnish. This layer may be removed with ethyl alcohol or acetone. The oxygen-inhibited layer can also be avoided if an oxygen stop gel (usually glycerol based) is used. This however is not very convenient in this type of application. A good option may be to use polycarbonate shells or TempTabs as a matrix.
8. Can staining be used to characterize the provisional restoration?
Yes, stain may be placed on the surface of the provisional restoration prior to Varnish LC application.
9. Is InstaTemp radiopaque?
Yes, the radiopacity is about 100% aluminum.
10. Is there any difference between the small and large mixing tips?
The larger mixing tip will allow for faster extrusion and better mixing of the material. It will do two things for the doctor: If there has been a slight blocking of the outlets that has not been removed, this mixing cannula is more forgiving and thus the doctor may still get a good temporary. If a slightly longer working time of the material is needed e.g. for long span bridges (5 or more units) the faster extrusion will allow to accommodate the filling of the impression within the time limit of the setting time (refrigerating the material will add an extra bit of working time).
13. How many provisional units can be made from one cartridge?
On average, you can get approximately 40 units from a 65g cartridge of InstaTemp.
14. What is the shelf life?
The shelf life is 2 years from date of manufacture.
15. Why may the material not set up properly?
There may be a blockage in one or both of the cartridge outlets, thus resulting in an uneven mixing ratio of components. To ensure the proper mixing ratio of base and catalyst, make sure that both outlets are free of set material prior to attaching a new mixing tip. Also, make sure that the mixing tip is properly mounted on the cartridge. The mixing tips have a notch to aid in proper alignment (note that there are 2 size holes in the mixing tip: a large one for base and a smaller one for catalyst).
Also, leave the used mixing tip on the cartridge as a cap until the next use. Do not try to extrude material that has already cured in the mixing tip. This could result in leaks or cracks in the cartridge and prohibit its proper use.
